This "week" we have a special treat for you and I've decided to create a separate page just for the videos. We were invited to the KTLA (TV5) studios in Hollywood to promote the Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest on their highly rated Morning News shows. I won’t bore you with the details but I didn’t attend this year while Sharon did and you’ll spot her in several of the clips. I did record the entire six (6) hours of shows on my home DVR to be sure I wouldn’t miss anything and have completed the conversions and uploaded them to YouTube and now you can view them below.
I’m assuming many of you have probably already viewed some of the happenings on at least Big Bear Lake’s Oktoberfest Facebook page but I’m probably the last person in the world who is not a Facebook member so I’m not sure what you’ve seen. Therefore, I’m going to post videos I converted for every time they mentioned Big Bear, Polkas, Oktoberfest, etc. and you can choose which you want to view.
[I’ve provided this description before but I’m including it again here so I can find it next year when I need to remind myself of the process I use: For anyone interested in the details of the process in the Macintosh world, the show was aired in HD but my DVD Recorder is only SD. So, after transferring the recorded clips from the DVR to a DVD, I used a wonderful program named "VidConvert" to extract the video from the DVD, another program called "MPEG Streamclip" to convert that QuickTime video output to HD (1280x720) and then QuickTime to trim the clip and upload it to YouTube. Maybe now you'll understand why it takes a while to get it done.]
Why don’t we start off with a screen grab I took off my iPad to show where Sharon & the gang were located. You should be able to click on the image to get a full size version to view.
1) There were actually three tease segments and the first two used video from last year. Here's one of them (0:10).
2) Here’s the third tease of the day and this one included this year’s group (0:17).
3) Not sure what had happened just before this but here are the 10am anchors passing the baton to the 11am anchors (0:17).
4) The on-air segments ended up being pre-empted by breaking news events and this was the final segment the Big Bear group got for this visit. That’s unfortunate because there’s a lot of work goes into preparing for these visits and a couple things ended up being left out. But overall it turned out okay (6:39).
