Week 5 (05-07 Oct. 2018)

Here we are at the 5th of 9 weekends.  It included Local’s Night on Friday, marked the last weekend for the Mats’s Infinity from Germany, and the finals of the unique Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest Queen contest.  As you may or may not know, the Queen wins that honor by carrying the highest number of steins filled with water (because we sure don’t want to waste beer).  Each stein filled with water weighs 5 lbs..  This years Queen, Melissa Tangeman, ended up successfully carrying 15 steins with the least amount of spillage (I’ll leave the math to figure the total weight to you).  Here’s a picture of the winner and her trophy.

Before more pictures, let’s do a couple videos.  This first one is a recording of Mats’s Infinity singing the song Matthias wrote for us last year and is aptly titled “Big Bear Lake’s Oktoberfest”.  It’s a catchy tune and you can find it on both iTunes and Amazon Music by searching for that title on either service (3:54).

Next comes Matt (our son) and his friend Ben participating in Men’s Log Sawing.  They won their group with a time of 15.52 seconds, I believe, and beat Ray & Ray in the process.  Long time visitors will remember that duo as Log Sawing champions for many years. (1:09).

It’s time to introduce all the band members to the audience (3:14).

Here’s a short clip of an activity that was fun for the audience.  They’re lined up as if on Bob Sleds and go for a ride down hill (1:03).

And now we’ll get to three of the sadder videos as we have to bid Auf Wiedersehen as Mats’s Infinity's two week engagement comes to an end.  This first one does run a little long but in reality none of us really wanted it to end (10:25).

Next they perform a song that’s traditionally played in the later stages of an Oktoberfest as a means of closing out a performance - Sierra Madre (3:30).

And, lastly, Mats’s Infinity closes out their engagement with Matthias playing our National Anthem.  Nice touch (1:39).

Now lets move on to the pictures.  Just select one you’d like to start with and then use the arrows at the bottom left (or your keyboard arrow keys) to maneuver back and forth or just select the SlideShow option at the bottom right to view them that way.  There may be a couple more than usual since this weekend was 3 days.
